look at the extension section in your php.ini

for win insert:
extension = php_gtk2.dll or php-gtk2.dll

for unix insert:
extension = php_gtk2.so or php-gtk2.so

I want to add a splash screen to my app. I did everything, but I couldn't find a way to show it properly. I can show the main window with Gtk::main(), but I need to display pre-launch progress in the splash so calling Gtk::main() prevents me doing the stuff.

I need a flow like this:
-Create and show splash
-Change splash progress to "Connecting the server..."
-Connect to the server
-Show an error dialog if it can't connect (This isn't fatal so splash will still be displayed)
-Change splash progress to "Loading settings..."
-Load settings
-Change splash progress to "Starting..."
-Create main window at the background
-Destroy splash
-Gtk::main()

Hi there

I have downloaded Gnope and managed to run the application-handler but when I tried to run GTK2 in my Wamp-installation I got the message:

Please load the php-gtk2 module in your php.ini

What shall I write in Wamps PHP.INI-file in order to use GTK2-there?

I'm new to PHP and recently setup my local machine with PHP and MySQL for doing development. I was sort of stuck when I needed to post my work for the user to test and review. After looking around a bit I found a site that hosts PHP and MySQL apps. I was surprised that it was free - it seems they're offering the service at no cost until 2012. At that point they'll change over to a fee-based service. However, in the meantime, it's a great place to do anything from demo and sandbox right up to posting sites for real.

Not many people using this board. Perhaps there is a reason?

Except for major established well-respected websites, most people do not allow just anyone install windows applications.

How does Gnope or GTK or PHP or whatever you call this solution, get around that show-stopper issue?

Isn't Javascript combined with <div>s, CSS and DOM manipulation a more acceptable way to go?

Quite frankly I would prefer to use PHP for all development. However, I simply see no way around installation of code on a user's PC. I use PHP on my PC today, but that is only because I have an Apache web server running on my Windows PC. And, I of course had to install code to do that.

So, if I want to have something that looks like a PC-application, I go the javascript way. For small embedded functions I use an IFRAME and that marketing term (AJAX).

Am I missing something?

You may already have your answer, since this is a couple months old, but I'm posting a reply anyway for the sake of the forum reads.

The current release of PHP-Gtk needs non-thread-safe extensions in order to work. So no matter what extension you're adding - mysql, pgsql, zip, whatever - you need to download the PHP NTS version and extract the needed extension(s) from there.

You can retrieve this file at:

http://us3.php.net/downloads.php

Once you've downloaded the file, extract the required extension into the php-gtk2/ext directory, uncomment the extension line in your php.ini and you should be ready to go.

By the way, this information is posted in the README text for the PHP-Gtk release, but it's a little confusing, I think, that it's not included on the PHP-Gtk2 download page itself.

I believe that php-gtk was a good idea but it is slowly withering on the vine. No real apparent interest in taking it to the "Java" level - and god, I hate java!

Without support, centralized updates and timely handling of issues there is little chance this will ever be more than it is now - a foot note in the history php. Not that I am bitching, all these intelligent people giving their free time to such a project is amazing - but money talks and people walk.

Maybe gnope should look into donations via support/problem resolutions. I've been to a couple of automotive maintenance websites where they give a question/problem out to freelance techs. You offer a donation first and then if the tech answers your question satisfactorily then he gets the $$$.

Perhaps gnope could put out a "php.ini path resolution" request, looking for a way to keep other installations of php from interfering with each other - ie., using the wrong ini file. People interested in this resolution could donate $$$ to its cause and the first person/group to come with a solution that is accepted by gnope would get the cash.

Also, posted questions could have a donation button and the poster could select the individual who has the best response.

Just some ideas that might kick this thing in the arss......

I'm still working on these issues myself but here is a little more info. If you already have an installation on windows - such as apahce and Zend core - and you try to install the gnope download it may not work. Numerous "pop & go" errors in CLI windows are too fast and too lacking in informative help to show the problem.

If you are missing your gnope folder after the install then it is quite likely that you have a windows registry setting that php is reading to find it's ini file. During the install serveral folders fail to be created due to this issue. If you rename the registry key "IniFilePath" found in "My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PHP\" to something else during the install then gnope will install properly. You will still have the issue mentioned above with having to add the command line switch "-c path to ini" to get programs to run correctly.
